    1st Dev Diary

This is my first attempt at a Dev Diary. This will be a place where I discuss what I’m doing with the Weeb’s Web name. I’ll talk about things like my plans, future servers, anything I’m currently working on. This is mainly a place to communicate with everyone using my services. It may read a little rough at first until I get used to writing for an audience.

    The Minecraft Rebuild

When I first created a Minecraft server I had just set up a basic vanilla server with no mods. Turns out players like mods. So I eventually converted it to a Fabric server and installed a few QoL mods. This worked great but was hard to update when new versions of the game released as it was a manual conversion to begin with. Luckily someone has already done the hard work for us and created a Pelican Egg with Fabric preinstalled. I decided we should rebuild.

After confirming a wipe was OK with the community, I removed the old server and spun up a new Fabric server. This one is MUCH easier to update so I hopefully won’t have to do another wipe again. I’m also planning to spin up a couple more Minecraft servers to server different functions:

    • The current server will be called Vanilla + and will feature a mostly vanilla experience with some QoL mods.
    • The next server planned will be a Cobblemon server because… well… I’m addicted to Pokemon. Got a problem? Too bad this is my server.
    • I would also like to make a Mod Mayhem server that just has tons of insane mods baked into it for maximum Chaos. This one is more of an idea for right now and doesn’t have much of a plan yet.

    wRO Changes

wRO is my Ragnarok Online server. When we first built this, it was more or less an experiment for me to play around with a server emulator project. There is a problem though. I hadn’t played enough RO to really know what I should and shouldn’t do. I set up a Renewal server and then realized there’s tons of p2w jank that I had to edit out. Before I knew it I had basically a half baked Renewal server with most of the Renewal features removed and a very accelerated leveling curve.

What I’d like to do is rework wRO into a multi-game mode server cluster that lets you play how you like. I plan to migrate the current server to Pelican to make it easier to manage. I’m going to separate the DBs and centralize logins across multiple Ragnarok Online servers. The idea is below:

    • The current wRO server will be renamed to wRO – Experimental. It will continue to function as it currently does with boosted rates and renewal jobs. The idea behind it is that it will be a fast-paced server that gets frequent changes and updates. It will be a bit of a chaotic playground so the other servers can fill their functions better.
    • A new permanent server will be built (most likely) based on Pre-Renewal. It will have rates higher than 1x but will still be much slower than wRO – Experimental. It will be a long term server where progression feels meaningful and deliberate. This will be the bread and butter long term, stable wRO experience.
    • From time to time I’d like to spin up extremely high rate progression servers. These will be open for planned events and will have certain goals to fulfil before the end of the event. Completing these goals will earn you rewards on the Pre-Renewal server so you can use them on your permanent characters.

For now I’m not making any changes. I am playing RO on some other popular private servers to do some research. I need to know what balance looks like in this game, what’s fun, and what’s a chore. Once I feel more confident about my game knowledge, I’ll take a look at actually building these servers.

Palworld – Keeping an eye out

The team behind Palworld has announced that 1.0 will be released some time this year. This has me excited to plan some events on the Palworld server for the release. One idea is turning on a Pal randomizer and hosting a big pvp event at the end of say 2 or 3 weeks. Since we have no release date, I’m just keeping this one in the back of my mind.

    Outro

Thanks for always sticking with me and supporting the many ways I love to give back to others. As you’ve read, some big changes are coming for the Weeb’s Web gaming servers. I hope you feel they are for the better. I certainly do and am excited to get started and try them out with friends.
