Honestly life has just been insane. We&#8217;re trying to sell a house and things keep breaking (and costing tons of $$$), my Wife and I are starting infertility treatment to hopefully have a little junior developer running around soon and I&#8217;ve just been exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That being said, tons of stuff has changed in the world of Weeb&#8217;s Web since the last post so I figured it was time for a new dev diary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Minecraft Server!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As fun as cobblemon and skyblock is, sometimes a more vanilla experience can be a breath of fresh air. We&#8217;ve added a vanilla + experience to our list of Minecraft servers. This one is based on the better MC 5 mod pack. It can be a bit of a pain to set up because a lot of the mods included have to be installed manually instead of bundled with the pack but I believe it&#8217;s worth it as the mods really do give it a clean vanilla experience with the QoL we come to expect from modded Minecraft. It also supports guilds and parties so team up, claim land and build with your friends!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weeb&#8217;s Web Ventures Into Terraria!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want a break from all the Minecraft? Try 2D Minecraft! Jokes aside Terraria is a lot of fun and was requested by the community. And who am I to deny the community some fun? Hop on in and build, explore and boss fight your way to victory with your fellow Weebs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened to Palworld?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve sunset the Palworld server for now. Palworld was tricky to keep running after initial interest died off because we were playing with server-sided mods. Unfortunately server-sided mods are only supported on Windows Server OS for now. This means that I can&#8217;t run the Palworld server in a debian container like the other games. I instead had to devote resources to a Windows VM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that resources were being taken from all the other servers and used exclusively by Palworld. As interest died off, I felt it necessary to free those resources back up for the games everyone&#8217;s playing for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m hoping that support for mods on Linux servers will be added with 1.0 in July. If not we will still be launching a fresh 1.0 server, it just won&#8217;t be modded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will There Ever Be Movement With wRO Again?<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes! We are working hard to build a solid foundation for the new wRO server. I want to launch it as a polished and tested experience this time instead of throwing it together on the fly and hoping for the best. Here&#8217;s what we&#8217;ve done so far:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Separated the massive database into 5 separate databases, one for each component server and one for logging.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This will make it much easier to track issues and spin up new servers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Separating the login db from the other tables allows us to spin up more servers under the same login as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Separated the Game Servers from the Database Servers and confirmed connectivity\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is a huge improvement for security. Now the DBs (almost) aren&#8217;t touching the public internet at all. This change gives us the ability to make modular changes to our game while keeping the important stuff secure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next up on the list is to rebuild the login page to support a more secure master account that lets you manage multiple game accounts from one login. From there we still have some more setup to do like config for the server and client building but we have real progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I know everyone is excited for wRO to make a comeback and I thank you for your patience on this one. I want to build something that stands the test of time and facilitates long-term progression and sustainability. I promise the server is coming, we just want to make sure it&#8217;s the best experience you can have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will consider wRO ready for launch when it meets the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Logins are more secure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foundation is modular<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rates, pre-renewal status, etc are configured<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A solid tutorial area for new characters is made<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A pity system for drops is available<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weeb&#8217;s Web&#8217;s Going Game Dev????<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Possibly! A couple of us have been playing around with Godot and decided to colab on a little game project. This is in no way a guarantee of a game release. We&#8217;re just having fun and motivating each other to explore a new passion. Hopefully we&#8217;ll have more news for you in another Dev Diary. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">That&#8217;s All For Now!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So uhhh yeah&#8230; I&#8217;ve been pretty silent but Weeb&#8217;s Web has still been chugging along. We have a lot of new ways to play together and some progress on some of our bigger goals. I hope you&#8217;ve enjoyed your time here and continue to do so. It really does fill my heart to provide a space for adults to get together and enjoy themselves with no strings attached. Especially with how scary the world is right now.
